Canada is announcing new funding to help launch a series of satellites to help monitor and respond to climate change.

Francois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, said Canada will contribute $200 million to the NASA-led Atmospheric Observation System.

The satellites will examine the influence of clouds, air movement, precipitation and atmospheric particles. climate change – a major source of uncertainty in climate models.

Champagne says the multi-satellite mission will improve extreme weather prediction, climate modeling and disaster monitoring.

The satellites will be launched in 2028 and 2031.

13 Canadian universities participate in the program alongside the government.
