An armed man who threatened Brett Kavanaugh, one of the justices of the US Supreme Court, was arrested near his home.
The man was arrested around 1:50 a.m. near the judge’s home in Maryland, Patricia McCabe, a spokeswoman for the court, said in an email.
The man in his 20s, from California, was armed with a gun and a knife, according to a law enforcement official.
The man, who has not been identified, arrived in a taxi early in the morning and told law enforcement officers he wanted to kill Kavanaugh, the official said.
The official is not authorized to publicly discuss the details of the ongoing investigation and spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
The Washington Post reports the man told police he was saddened by a leaked draft opinion showing the court was about to handle Roe v Wade, the court’s landmark abortion case. judgment.
The judges have been provided with 24-hour security in their homes because of concerns about violence following the court’s final decision on whether to handle the case.
Protests took place at Mr. Kavanaugh’s home in suburban Maryland and at the homes of other judges.
