BOXXER Sign Jack Catterall To Exclusive Promotion Agreement
Jack Catterall (26-1-0, 13 KOs) has written a new multi-fight deal to sign exclusively with BOXXER, the next-generation boxing promotion.
The 29-year-old world champion prospect is a man on a mission – and he can now look forward to some big games shown live and exclusively on Sky Sports.
Catterall was controversially denied superlightweight glory last February when he suffered the only defeat of his career to date to Josh Taylor.
The Chorley-born boxer left Glasgow empty-handed after a controversial split decision in favor of his opponent, the result of which confounded boxing fans around the globe.
But Southpaw feels strongly determined to avenge Taylor’s defeat after declaring that he is ready to rise again and settle the score.
After putting pen to paper on a new long-term agreement, Catterall happily said: “I am delighted to be joining BOXXER. I signed a multi-match deal and BOXXER has a great background in Sky Sports.
“This is like a fresh start. I’ve kept it all under wraps until now, so I think this news will be a nice surprise for a lot of people, especially everyone who’s been asking me over the past weeks and what’s going on. out. Hopefully they will be just as excited as I am and together we can all look forward to the next stages in my career with some big battles and big nights ahead.
“I really believe those big battles can be done through BOXXER and Sky. It’s a huge platform for me to perform and I’m super excited about it.
“Ben [Shalom] and I’m both the same age. And, like myself, he is very ambitious. He put an incredible team together at BOXXER and in the end, I think it was a great partnership.
“I have full confidence in my ability to go on and win world titles with BOXXER. I’m still only 29, so I’ve had some good years in the sport. I want to bring the big fights to the fans and there is no one better than Ben and BOXXER to do it together.”
Ben Shalom, CEO and Founder of BOXXER, added: “This is a great signing for BOXXER. We are really touched. And we all want Jack Catterall to have an incredible career and get all the opportunities he deserves.
“Maybe it will be a rematch with Josh Taylor, but whatever happens, I think he deserves another world title in the very near future.
“I talked to Top Rated and with Josh for a bit. I knew he wanted to fight, but I also knew that if there were things that would prevent a rematch from happening, Jack wouldn’t be negligent.
“For Jack, this heralds the beginning of a new dawn. And, believe me, when I say a storm is coming. You are looking for a future world champion of Jack and a man named to put his name in the history books of British boxing. I can’t wait to see him again soon along with some of the big fights we’ve prepared for him down the line. “
Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development at Sky Sports, said: “I am really excited that Jack will be joining the new era of Sky and BOXXER. This is a big announcement.
“I have admired Jack for many years – he always brings entertainment, passion and will fight anyone. We will be right behind Jack because he aims to be world champion in the near future.”
Dubbed ‘El Gato’, Catterall began his professional career in style more than a decade before beating Carl Allen on points in Manchester.
The former champion of the Central region continued to win the British ultralightweight crown in 2017 when he defeated Tyrone Nurse. And Catterall will follow suit by knocking out the likes of Kevin McCauley, Christopher Sabire and Oscar Amador in a number of successful WBO Intercontinental defenses.
Impressive wins over domestic rivals Ohara Davies and Timo Schwarzkopf of Germany will help the Catterall driver win the world championship title as he has been named the mandatory challenger for a hit at the WBC world title. full.
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Catterall was forced to wait patiently for his chance, and he delayed his mandatory chance to watch Josh Taylor unify the squad as the Scots beat Jose Carlos Ramirez to claim the WBC title and boost yourself. of the WBA, WBO and IBF belts.
Catterall and Taylor eventually collided at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, in a fight that many believe the Briton should have gone with the gold earlier this year.
Indeed, there’s no doubt that Catterall will be heavily backed for business if the pair rematch in a second ‘Battle of Britain’ rematch.
