BMW Alpina B7 dies after 6 generations

BMW 7-Series enters seventh generation with redesigned 2023 model was announced in April, but there won’t be an Alpina version this time around, BMW’s semi-official tuner has confirmed.

Alpina earlier in September marked the end of production of B7 based on the upcoming BMW 7-Seriesand confirm the car is the ultimate B7.

No reason given but it could be BMW, in March Acquiring the Alpina brandready to launch own the high-performance 7-Series based on the latest generation of the flagship sedan. These include the M760e xDrive plug-in hybrid with 563 hp and the i7 M70 xDrive electric vehicle with over 600 hp.

There’s also the issue of sedan sales losing to SUVs. The Alpina XB7 based on the BMW X7 outsold the B7, and an updated version just announced for 2023.

There have been six generations of the B7 but the car was not always based on the 7-Series. The first car was launched in 1978 as the B7 Turbo on the basis of the BMW 5-Series. The first B7 based on the BMW 7-Series didn’t appear until 2001.

One documentary released last November shows how the B7 is built, while also providing a bit of Alpina history and an interview with company founder Burkard Bovensiepen.

With the Alpina brand now owned by BMW, future Alpina cars will be manufactured at BMW’s own factories while Alpina will focus on vehicle development and the business’s parts and services. .
