Ben Stokes scores 5 goals in his ODI swansong after sweeping defeat to South Africa in Durham
England vs South Africa: In his final ODIs, Ben Stokes managed just 5 times as he was knocked out of the LBW while trying to pull off a back sweep in front of his home crowd in Durham on Wednesday Three.

It wasn’t the ideal end to Ben Stokes’ day-long international career but the all-around England international received a standing ovation from his home crowd at Chester-le-Street in Durham on Wednesday. Three, 19 July. Stokes was out for the last five ODIs of his career when the cricket superstar threw his bat away at a pivotal point in a 334-round chase against Nam. Phi in the opening match of the ODI series in Durham.
Ben Stokes attempted to play a back sweep but he slipped a slider from part-time overtime spinner, Aiden Markram. Stokes was given the LBW by the on-field umpire and despite being persuaded by teammate Joe Root to reconsider, the almighty decided not to use it.

Stokes may have missed a straight shot from Markram but his last call in ODI cricket – decided against the review – proved right as replays suggested three reds with the ball keep hitting the tree stump.
Stokes wore a bored expression after missing one last chance to help England win the ODI. However, there were handshakes and applause from the opposition and the crowd as Stokes admitted support after playing his last ODI shot at the age of 31.

Stokes departed 5th in round 28 while England dropped to 142nd with 3rd after a strong start from their openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow. After 102 opening runs, the home team lost 3 quick plugs.
Stokes finished his ODI career with 2924 runs in 105 games for an average of 38.98. The 2019 World Cup hero ended his ODI career with 3 hundred and 21 fifty.
Earlier in the day, Stokes played five passes and conceded 44 while failing to win a single as South Africa hit their path to 333 in 50 passes. Rassie van der Dussen scored 133 while Aiden Markram and Janemann Malan each scored 50 points in a powerful Proteas batting.
