Antonov An-225 Mriya flies again in Microsoft Flight Simulator
The world’s largest plane, the Antonov An225 Mriya, was born in the Soviet Union in 1988. It’s 275 feet long and weighs nearly 420,000 pounds, and was designed to carry the Soviet shuttle Buran in the same way that NASA put its space shuttles. its shuttle to a modified 747. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, the only Mriya in the world was used for worldwide heavy air transport. It was destroyed last year, a victim of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But now, it’s flying again — in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
EQUAL Luke Plucknett at Kotaku first reportedAntonov confirmed that they have worked with Microsoft as well as digital airframe company IniBuilds to allow the giant Mriya to fly again in digital form.
Mriya’s numbers are truly astounding. It is designed to take off with a maximum weight of 705 tons – more than 1.4 million pounds. Not only is it the longest aircraft ever built, but it also boasts the widest wingspan at 290 feet — almost the last of this area to the last on an American football field. It can carry just over 99,000 gallons of fuel. With six turbofan engines, it can reach a top speed of 530 mph and can cruise nearly 10,000 miles, though that range will drop dramatically depending on how much cargo is loaded inside.
Prior to the shutdown, Mriya performed one last mission of transporting COVID testing kits from China to Denmark. It was prepared to evacuate Ukraine on 24 February, but it never did. Russian forces attacked Antonov Airport and Mriya was destroyed.
But it lives on in Flight Simulator. And as IniBuilds points out, you can achieve success with only $20with the proceeds going to “Antonov/Ukraine” as IniBuilds offers.
