After Avengers: Endgame, the iconic character of Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, retired and the Captain America jacket was passed on to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie. Steve gave the Captain America Shield to Sam and made him a worthy successor.
Sam spent the larger part of the Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier denying the shield saying he was not ready for such a responsibility but when he realized that no one else could do it and Steve chose him for a reason, he accepted the burden in the series’ finale.
Now, Sam Wilson is ready to fulfill the responsibility of being Captain America alone in the upcoming movie Captain America: New World Order. This will be the first time that Sam Wilson’s Captain America will go solo and become the full focus of a movie with the shield.
Actor Anthony Mackie who plays the character recently decided to talk about what makes Sam Wilson’s Captain America different from Steve Rogers’ Captain America and indeed from all the superheroes in the MCU. Mackie points out that Sam isn’t really a superhero; he has no powers and no gifts, rather he is just an ordinary man trying to do the right thing with the tools he has been given.
His exact comments when talking about it to Men’s Magazine were as follows:
“Mine will be different. You have to realize something about Sam — he’s a superhero not really a superhero. There’s no secret serum. There isn’t this or that. I just have one. wings on the suit that I got from the military. So everything that I do, I do as a normal person. When you see me, you might think, “Oh, I can be a superman too. hero.” Whereas if you look at the Hulk or any of them, you can’t compete.”
This way, Sam’s Captain America is truly a man for people and he can see from the perspective of the common man, whom he is trying to protect.
