Anthony Joshua Shouldn’t Take Tyson Fury Fight Now Says Gareth A Davies

Via Barry Holbrook: Anthony Joshua should not fight Tyson Fury, says Gareth A Davies, because it would be “unwise” for him to do so given his career situation after two losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Yesterday’s deadline Fury has come and gone, and he’s been silent on the matter; it turns out that Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) and his promoter Eddie Hearn have decided to decline his offer.

Whatever the opportunity to do the fight, it all went up in smoke after Fury opted to use tough negotiating tactics with a deadline of Thursday and decided to turn down Joshua’s request by Thursday. December 17 with emphasis on November 26 or December 3.

If Fury is smart, he’ll learn from this and make sure he doesn’t use the same crude negotiating tactic with Joshua in the future. Joshua won’t bow ahead of time and move Fury’s date.

“It makes no sense. It’s a final fight for him to face Fury in December, even if Fury agrees to come December 17,” Gareth A Davies told Professional boxing fan about Anthony Joshua.

“It makes no sense. He [Joshua] need to rebuild and go and knock out a few, have a couple of good performances, fight Dillian Whyte and fight Deontay Wilder, maybe.

“The Fury fight will always be there. There’s not enough time for him [Joshua] to be ready. It’s unwise to do it now because if he loses or gets disqualified, it’s hard to know where he’s going from there.

“Where does he really go from there and he has new salary managers at DAZN. They offered him a multi-year, multi-year deal. I’m talking business here; I am speaking from his point of view. If I were his promoter, I’d say, ‘Stay away.’

“Why didn’t Usyk fight Fury in December? Because he’s not ready because he needs time, and Joshua needs time. He needs to rebuild, in my opinion.

“There’s another side where people say, ‘That’s his chance to be a three-weight world champion in no time. He doesn’t need to rebuild. ‘ It doesn’t work like that, I’m afraid. I think it’s unwise to do that fight now.

“I think there is a one or two percent chance that the fight will be in the next 24 hours. I couldn’t see it,” said Davies.
