Gothic is not to be confused with upcoming Gothic 1 remake by developer Alkimia Interactive of THQ Nordic, featuring improved graphics and many other modern enhancements.
Here’s a little more info on Gothic’s story via Steam. In short, it’s a living world where people work, sleep, eat and fight to survive. It has more than 50 hours of gameplay and a variety of weapons and spells that your character can use.
War was waged throughout the kingdom of Myrtana. Orcs invaded human territory and the king of the land needed a great deal of ore to forge enough weapons, if his armies were to withstand this threat. Anyone who breaks the law in these darkest times is condemned to serve in the massive penal colony of Khorinis, much-needed ore mining.
The entire area, dubbed the “Colony”, is surrounded by a magical barrier, a sphere two kilometers in diameter that blocks the penal colony from the outside world. The barrier could be passed in from the outside – but once inside, no one could escape. Barriers are a double-edged sword – soon the prisoners seize the opportunity and start an uprising. The colony is divided into three rival factions and the king is forced to negotiate for his ore, not just claim it.
You are thrown over the fence into this prison. With your back against the wall, you must survive and form unstable alliances until you can finally escape.
