Amiah Robertson’s grandfather speaks out

INDIANAPOLIS – Chuck Robertson says learning of an arrest made in connection with the disappearance of his 8-month-old niece, Amiah Robertson, comes with mixed emotions.

“I’m embarrassed to say it, but I’m relieved in a way that something is finally happening,” he said.

Chuck Robertson’s shame stems from the fact that his daughter and Amiah’s mother, Amber Robertson, had arrested and indicted by a grand jury regarding the baby’s 2019 disappearance.

“I hate to know it’s my daughter. It’s my blood. I care about her and love her but if she’s involved in this, she needs to pay the price,” he said.

Amber Robertson talked to WRTV several times for many years, begging for the safe return of his daughter. Now, she is facing four counts of dependent abandonment of varying degrees.

Her ex-boyfriend Robert Lyons also faces similar charges. A warrant for his arrest was issued. According to prosecutors, the most serious offense carries a sentence of 16 years.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said if they can find any remains, Robertson could face more charges.

“If she were found guilty, knowing how long she would be behind bars, it would be a whole new level of loss and pain that I would have to go through,” Chuck Robertson said. .

Throughout the interview, Chuck Robertson couldn’t hold back his tears as he talked about his niece, thinking about what she might have been through.

“She’s a beautiful baby… a beautiful baby. She’s a wonderful child. Not once have I sat down and said ‘Why me, why no one else?’ ‘ because of what I’ve felt and felt now, I would never wish in another,” he said.

Chuck Robertson said he hasn’t spoken to his daughter Amber in over a year. She wasn’t happy about the last time he spoke to WRTV. Now that she’s been arrested for the disappearance of Baby Amiah, he has this to say about his daughter:

“Amber, I love you, but you made the wrong choice.”
