Adele Wins Her First Emmy and Is Only One Award Away From EGOT
On Saturday night, musical artist Adele won an Emmy for Outstanding Magazine Special (pre-recorded) for the CBS special. Only one night. This means that the award-winning song writer is one step closer to the EGOT position. She now has an Emmy, several Grammys and an Oscar. All Adele needs now is a Tony and she will have the full collection and join the elite group of artists who have won all four.
The group consists of just 17 people, with the most recent EGOT member being Jennifer Hudson, who won a Tony Award in June for producing the musical. A strange loop. Other members of the EGOT club include West storyby Rita Moreno, comedians Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg and John Legend. Adele has won multiple Grammy Awards for her highly successful albums, and she won an Academy Award in 2013 for Best Original Song for “Skyfall.”
The Emmy-winning special was filmed in Los Angeles at Griffith’s Observatory and it was her first live performance in six years. The Only one night the event included many of Adele’s biggest hits like “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You” and she debuted several songs from her most recent album, 30. It aired last November, officially presented by Oprah Winfrey, and is the most watched special since the Oscars.
Special awards have been won in several categories at the Creative Arts Emmys, including Outstanding Lighting Design / Lighting Direction for a Variety of Specials, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety of Categories, or Technical Tutorials / special filming, featured for a Special Variety.
The artist was not present at the event to receive his award. Adele has been hard at work on many projects, especially her Las Vegas mansion which was completely refurbished earlier this year and is expected to open soon.
