I had a difficult relationship with jumpsuits for years, but finally popped in after figuring out exactly what to look for. Now, it’s all love!
I was usually the tallest girl in the room growing up, which meant that shopping for any kind of unique item (from bathing suits to shorts) was always a challenge. So when jumpsuits started trending a few years ago, I was skeptical – but I liked the fun simplicity of the style, and I refused to find the right one. its rate. At a size 20 and standing at 5’10, finding a jumpsuit to fit my waist, long torso, and legs wasn’t always easy. But as I’ve learned, a few key shopping tips can save you a lot of precious time and energy (no more fitting rooms!). Here are three things that really make a difference when looking for the best overalls.
My style goal as we all continue to work from home is to be “gathered enough to do a Zoom call, yet comfortable enough to feel like I’m still on PJ”. Luckily for me, when loungewear took over last year, overalls became the ideal WFH choice. Since wearing a jumpsuit means you basically have to go topless to go to the bathroom, it’s all the more important that getting in (and out) feels comfortable and doesn’t feel like a marathon. If you feel constrained by fabric or proportions, overalls can start to feel claustrophobic. Move around as you’re trying out different options to make sure you can raise your arms and crouch comfortably without the overalls pulling up too high.
Know your measurements
Since not many people can visit the IRL store now, prepare for online shopping with a few key details. It can be tempting to judge by pictures and reviews only (which are also great indicators of fit and quality), the best way is to find a ruler and know your measurements , from your first to your first. As you’re browsing, check the size of the overalls—many websites will list both the top and inside lengths, which is helpful in finding the best fit. Consider ordering a few different sizes to choose from (just be sure to check the store’s return and refund policy first).
Go for flexibility
Here’s what I love most about overalls right now: The options are truly endless. Some are perfect for lazy Sundays, while other glamorous options make the best look for a night out (or in—anyone else getting dressed to see the shows). awards show in their living room?). Jumpsuits are also great transitions as you can easily pair them with a cute jean jacket or long trench coat or wear under a long-sleeve t-shirt. A few favorites from my own collection: a stretchy black Jumpsuit that I live pretty much all summer; a royal blue figure with a ruffled collar looks great on the dance floor; and a leopard print jacket that I teamed with a crop top to meet Lizzo (who complimented my look!)
If nothing else convinces you, consider this: A thoughtless jumpsuit in the morning. Just throw it in, grab a coffee and you’re ready to face the day!
