2 Roswell preschool teachers arrested after parents watch videos of alleged abuse in the classroom

ROSWELL, Ga. – Two Roswell preschool teachers have been arrested for cruelty to children after parents saw them abusing children on a live video from the classroom.

The incident happened in a 3-year-old classroom at Parker-Chase Preschool in Roswell last week.

Parents first contact with Channel 2 News Action On Friday, after a mother checked on her son, two teachers appeared to be standing on one child’s arms, resting on another child’s back and pushing his forehead back.

Brant Duncan and Gloria Barghi immediately called the police, rushed to the school to request the dismissal of the teachers and contact the victim’s mother.

“It doesn’t matter whose son he is,” Duncan said. “It was a child. They are powerless. They are defenseless. “


Detectives watched the video and arrested Zeina Alostwani, 40, and Soriana Briceno, 19, for first degree cruelty to children.

Steve Gehlbach of Channel 2 spoke to the victim’s mother, who did not want to be identified, but said what she saw in the video was amazing.

“It was a matter of seconds, and knowing what we saw was intentional and at that moment my stomach tightened,” she said.

Several other victims at the school have come since their arrest.

Alostwani and Briceno appeared before the judge on Tuesday, where prosecutors asked that they not be granted bail. Alostwani was issued a $75,000 bond and Briceno was not awarded a bond based on her refugee and immigration status.

There is now a much larger investigation into preschool.

“So we have a few weeks of video recording and reviewing to make sure that there are no other instances of this type of behavior,” Roswell police said.

Gehlbach went to the preschool on Tuesday, where officials will not speak. In a statement the school sent to parents, the preschool’s parent company said the teachers had been fired and they were shocked and disappointed at what it called “inappropriate disciplinary actions”. fit”.

“While we are extremely grateful that the children are well, we take this matter seriously and our investigation is ongoing,” school officials said. “We expect our employees to adhere to the highest standards of care and any failure to do so will not be tolerated.”
