1 dead, 1 injured in ‘serious police incident’ in Prince Rupert, B.C., RCMP say
The RCMP said one person died and another was injured following a “serious police incident” in Prince Rupert, BC, this morning.
Police cordoned off the property around Ocean Center Mall, a multi-purpose shopping complex and downtown workspace that includes government offices.
Officers said they arrived at the scene around 8:30 a.m. Pacific time and found one person dead and another seriously injured.
Residents were asked to stay away from the area as investigators gathered evidence.
This morning, dozens of people gathered outside the building. A woman is seen crying.
RCMP Staff Sergeant Major. Dave Uppal said the support is in place to help those who need it.
Premier David Eby expressed his sympathies at a news conference this morning, saying, “our hearts go out to those affected…all British Columbians are thinking of those who have lost their lives. at Prince Rupert.”
